New 5-Axis Swarfing Patterns

The Rhino / Grasshopper CAMel plugin is now running the 5-Axis machine, generating G-Code entirely within the Grasshopper modeling environment. This supports a rapid workflow for experimentation with the possibilities offered by 5-Axis milling, such as complex SWARF patterns as shown here.

The Swarf Patterns project is being developed at the Fay Jones School of Architecture, in my FABCRAFT seminar. The work shown is produced by Keefer Bickel, a student in the course who is also implementing parametric / 5Axis workflows as part of a 5th year design studio project.

The swarfing G-Code will be optimized to remove excess material before we move on to milling harder materials such as wood or plastics.

The CAMel plugin was developed by Edmund Harris and may be obtained here: http://maxwelldemon.com/2011/09/29/camel/
